Thank you for sharing my love of this painting and this history! Update: The painting now is in the collections of the Museo del Prado. And the reason why Spain has this painting is not due to any connection with Moorish history there (after all, in 1599 Spain was actively repressing and trying to expel the Moors), but instead due to the colonial relationship of Latin America to Spain. Spain possesses a huge amount of Latin American treasures from the colonial period. There was also an apparent fascination with documenting race mixing in the Americas, as witnessed in "casta" paintings (see: https://vistas.ace.fordham.edu/lib/18th/casta/history-visual-culture/). In fact, the inscription scroll on this particular painting (top right corner) addresses King Philip of Spain directly, strongly suggesting the painting was produced for / dedicated to him.
